What is Kybella®?

KYBELLA® is a prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called  “double chin.” Kybella is used to treat submental fullness (fat under the chin).  It consists of a series of injections of decholic acid under the chin.  There is some downtime and the procedure is best done in the fall and winter.

What to expect with Kybella®?

Before starting treatment, your doctor will examine the area under and around your chin to determine if KYBELLA® is right for you. Then, your doctor will tailor your treatment to the amount of fat under the chin and your aesthetic goals.

After the Treatment

Side effects vary, but most commonly include discomfort, swelling, numbness, redness, bruising, and small, hard areas around injection sites. Small percentages of clinical studies participants had side effects like a lopsided smile or weakness in facial muscles, and difficulty swallowing. Both side effects disappeared in time without treatment.
